Cracking weekend in Scotland with N&PMC. Most of us went up Ben Nevis on Saturday and were lucky with the weather. It was cold with poor visibility on the top, however stayed fine and dry. We then called in at the Ben Nevis Inn to rehydrate. |
For various reasons this was my first day out of the year. The plan had been a wander up Helvellyn via Striding Edge, however the weather had other ideas. After a quick discussion, we decided to walk up to Boredale Hause then on to Place Fell. Once above Boredale Hause, the conditions deteriorated somewhat as expected: clag and very strong wind. At the Trig point on Place Fell, it was almost impossible to stand up and very cold so we didn't hang around. |
This years Allendale Challenge will be held on 10 April. Entry forms are now available at www.northoftynesearchandrescue.org.uk this is an event well worth supporting and a great day out is guaranteed! |
Lovely winter walk in North Yorkshire today. From Clay Bank car park, followed the Cleveland Way to Bloworth Crossing, then continued on over Ingleby Moor dropped down Ingleby Bank and returned via Greenhow Botton and Greenhow Plantation. Blue sky and sunshine all day, however there was a very cold wind at times. |
Very enjoyable day today, running an NNAS Silver course near Alwinton. Blue sky and sunshine for most of the day, however the clag came in later in the day, providing "challenging" conditions for navigating back to the car park. |
Great weekend in Scotland with N&PMC. We stayed at The Adventurers Escape at Weem, near Aberfeldy. We have stayed here before and the accommodation and facilities are excellent. On Saturday, we started early from Lawers and followed Lawers Burn up to Lochan nan Uan. We then climbed through the snow and the clag onto Ben Lawers. The idea then, was to follow the ridge taking in Creag an Fhithich, An Stuc, Meall Garbh, finishing with Meall Greigh. However, due to next to no visibility and worsening conditions, we decided to head back down. The plan on Sunday was to make a quick ascent of Meall nan Tarmachan before driving back. Unfortunately this did not go ahead due to the copious quantities of malt consumed the previous evening. |
Ignored the weather forecast and drove down to North Yorkshire with several members of N&PMC today. We took the following route: Gribdale Terrace car park - Great Ayton Moor - Roseberry Topping - Hutton Lowcross Woods - Guisborough Woods - Codhill Heights - Coate Moor and Captain Cook's Monument. Other than a couple of showers and strong wind at times, the weather wasn't too bad. A good day was had by all, even Kevin, whose "bad back" stood up well to the test! |
Nice stroll with my son in the Lakes today. Parked up at Hartsop, then walked up to Threshthwaite Mouth on to Thornthwaite Beacon, then along High. St. to The Knott and descended to Hayeswater. Fine and dry all day. For a change. |
Had a walk up Cross Fell with some members of N&PMC today. An enjoyable day was had despite the horrible weather: very wet, very windy and very poor [at times] visibility. |
Took an old friend [an exiled Geordie] and his family for a walk up Windy Gyle today. Despite the protests, moans and groans [mainly from the Southern Softie in the group!] a very enjoyable day was had by all. The weather was kind, with blue sky and sunshine for most of the day. A pint of Ruddle's went down very well afterwards. |
